5th Annual Wyoming Higher Education Mental Health & Substance Abuse Summit is "to convene student affairs mental health, and substance abuse professionals and administrators in higher education in Wyoming to inform and inspire research and best practices for college student mental health promotion, suicide and alcohol abuse prevention. To this end, participants will exchange knowledge, engage in dialogue, develop skills, and strengthen the network of higher education professionals working in mental health and substance abuse prevention in Wyoming."
The 5th Annual Higher Education Mental Health and Substance Abuse Summit will be held March 27-29, 2012 in Casper, Wyoming with a pre-conference training (Gatekeeper Presentation and Train-the-trainer) on March 27. The focus of this year's Summit will be on college student veterans. We will have several speakers and panelists that can effectively address this topic.
The Summit is funded primarily by a Campus Suicide Prevention Grant from the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) that the University of Wyoming has received. Past Summits have provided training on recognizing and responding to suicide risk, gatekeeper training, students of concern/behavioral intervention teams, motivational interviewing, among other mental health and substance abuse topics.
